Designer Brands vs Local Optical Shops
Korea is home to well-known eyewear brands like Gentle Monster. These brands focus heavily on design and trends, which is reflected in their pricing.
If you’re not chasing fashion labels, local optical shops are often the better choice. They offer durable frames, precise lenses, and excellent service at much more reasonable prices.
What About Reading Glasses?
Reading glasses are one category where the price difference is less dramatic compared to other countries. Still, quality and fitting tend to be better at local optical shops than convenience stores.
When Glasses May Take Longer
For very high prescriptions, strong astigmatism, or complex corrections, production may take longer—sometimes up to one or two weeks. This is normal and worth asking about in advance.
Even in these cases, the process is often still faster and more affordable than in many other countries.
If you’re new to the process, this guide explains how buying glasses in Korea works, from eye exams to same-day pickup.
